Spider assemblages (Arachnida: Araneae) in the eulittoral zone of the northern shore of Lake Constance (Baden-Württemberg, Germany)

Abstract

Spiders were sampled with pitfall traps between April 24th and May 5th 2019 at 10 sections on the northern shore of Lake Constance between Überlingen and Friedrichshafen. Shortly after the traps were removed, the trap positions were flooded by the summer flood of Lake Constance. Three of the 30 traps were not included into the data set, because they were flooded before sampling. We included near-natural shoreline sections as well as anthropogenically modified shoreline sections with retaining walls into the investigation. Most of the traps were installed on gravel shores with sparse or without vegetation. A few trap positions were in reedbeds, sedge meadows or riparian shrubs. In total 744 spiders (596 adults) of 37 species and 8 families were caught. The most common species by far were Oedothorax agrestis (Blackwall, 1853) (290 individuals) and Oedothorax apicatus (Blackwall, 1850) (157 individuals). While all species were already recorded for Baden-Württemberg, three species were new findings on the shores of Lake Constance: Gongylidiellum vivum (O. P.-Cambridge, 1875), Pardosa wagleri (Hahn, 1822) and Tenuiphantes tenuis (Blackwall, 1852). With one specimen each of Pardosa wagleri and Gongylidiellum vivum recorded, the proportion of species listed on the Red List of Baden-Württemberg was slightly above 5 %. The publication of this species list is also intended to indicate that a systematic inventory of all spider species on the shores of Lake Constance is still  missing.
